I was supposed to post this already a week ago together with some pictures. Today I realised I haven't published this post and that I still don't have any pictures to go with it, but I will publish this any way. I might edit this with some pictures later or I might not...let's see :)
Yesterday was my first day back at work after 6 weeks of "vacation" due to layoffs. It felt a bit strange being back, but the day went by quite fast.
I had loads of unread e-mails (197 to be exact) to go trough and it took me about 4,5 hours to do it. The remaining 3 hours of my workday I spent doing marketing plans to cover the rest of this year and the beginning of next. This due to the fact that I still have 6 weeks of this "vacation" left due to these freaking layoffs and my boss needs to see a schedule of marketing tasks that still NEEDS to be done (in my opinion that is) during this year, so that he MIGHT cancel some of my planned layoffs.
Today I continued with the schedule and started with the budget for 2010 and a preliminary budget for 2011. Happyhappyjoyjoy. NOT. But never the less, I like being back at work as there are some nice people working here (not all, but most) and me sitting at my desk at work means that I'll get some money at the end of the month. Wohoo! \o/
But that's all I'm going to tell you about work. I have some even more interesting things to tell you guys about, and that is about the weekend :)
Dad came to pick me and Emma up from my place on Thursday afternoon and took me to my parents' place. I needed a car on Friday and the only way to get a car was to borrow one from my parents. The reason to why I needed the car was that I had an appoint ment with my hairdresser on Friday at 11 am and her shop is located in a village that isn't very close to where I live. I don't want to change my hairdresser to one that would be next door to where I live, as I'm so pleased with the work she has done so far with my hair. She really knows what suits me and knows how my hair acts. If I would go to some stranger that I'd have start from scrtach with, it would take years to build up the some trust I have with my current one. I'm now a brunette.
I was out of the hairdressers chair at approx. 13:30 and drove back to my parents place to return the car and have a qiuck lunch. I also had to put some make up on, as my next destination would be Helsinki.
My dad took me to the train station at Riihimäki and the train to Helsinki departed at 15:09. I arrived at Helsinki train station at 15:52 and the ever so lovely Jenni was there to meet me. From the train station we went to Amarillo, which is a restaurant close to the train station. We had a nice dinner and it was so nice to catch up on things, even thoug it was only twoo weeks since we last met :) After dinner we took a stroll around some of the shops waiting for the clock to turn 7 pm.
I guess you all already know what happened at 7 pm on Friday night; The Jimmy Choo for H&M VIP-launch! We went for coffee at a nearby café of the event at 6:30 pm and at that time there was already people queueing for the event! If you get an invatiation that say that a party starts at 7 pm, then you go at 7 pm and not 30 minutes earlier. Some people just are a bit stupid. Me and Jenni had our coffees and just befor 7 pm we started making our way to the event. And at that time there was already an enourmous queue outside the venue. At that time we thought with Jenni that we would be glad if we even saw a glimps of the collection.
Slowly the queue moved and we got in. They served Moët champagne, some small salty bits and chocolate. At this time we had no chance on trying to get some of the items from the collcetions as the shopping of Jimmy Choo started only at 7:45 pm. But belive me, when the clock hit 7:45 pm the crowd of people at the venue just vent mad. Me and Jenni still got what we wanted to try on :) though jenni couldn't try any of the dresses on due to her belly, so I tried them on for her. And she bought both of the dresses. I tried on two dresses as well, but didn't go for any of them. Instead I bought two pairs of shoes and a wallet.
We were ready with our shopping at 8:30 pm and headed home, Jenni to hers and I gor a ride with my mom to my parents' place. We arrived there at 10 pm and dad had made some really delicious cheese sufflé. And to top it off we had some really good red wine to go with it.
On Saturday we (me, my dad, my mom and my sister) went to and Antique's fair that was held in Hämeenlinna. The most of the day was spent there.
On Sundayit was time for my sister to go back to Turku. My mom and dad decided that they would take her and I decided to go with them. I had an hidden agenda. On Thursday I received and text message saying that the lamp that I had ordered had arrived and could be collected at Stockmann in Turku. So I finally got the lamp of my dreams and I even bought something else that I'm going to post about later this month :)
So, all in all the weekend was perfect! I got the Jimmy Choos that I wanted, I got my lamp and I got to spend some quality time with a dear friend and with my family :)
Hahaa! Here I am again posting about the Jimmy Choo for H&M launch :)
I just realised that I forgot a couple of things from my 'Jimmy Choo for H&M' -wish list, so I just have to post those missing things :)
I would need a leather jacket like this, but I think it's a bit expensive for me...but you never know what happens when we meet on Friday ;)
I know I posted the ones with the zebra print in my last post, but every girl needs black ballerinas as well. Right?
There is something about the sequin sweater that makes me want it. I'm not a big fan of sequins, but this I l-o-v-e!
Pictures are form the H&M website.
As probably all of you know the Jimmy Choo for H&M will be launched this week. On Saturday to be precise. Bellow you can find a quote from H&M's website regarding the launch:
"H&M is launching Jimmy Choo for H&M on November 14th. Since the collection is in very high demand, we’re expecting a crowd.
WHAT DO I DO IF I ARRIVE BEFORE OPENING HOURS?
If there is a line, please wait in line and H&M store staff will
inform you about how to shop.
HOW DOES THE QUEUING SYSTEM WORK?
The first 160 people in line will receive a bracelet; on the bracelet you will be given a specific time for shopping in our designated area. The bracelets are only needed for the women’s shoes, bags and accessories. Customers shopping the men’s collection or the women’s garments will not require a bracelet.
When your time has come, we will let you into the designated area to shop. Our goal is to create a better shopping experience for
all of our customers.
If you are not one of the 160 first in line, you will of course have the opportunity to shop from the rest of the collection or within H&M. After about two hours we will also open up the designated area for all of our customers.
To make sure as many customers as possible are able to buy from the Jimmy Choo for H&M collection, we have a limitation. Every customer can buy the whole collection but with a limitation of buying maximum one per product, i.e. not more than one size (shoes/garments) or piece (accessories) per product per customer. The limitation covers the whole Jimmy Choo for H&M Collection. Your place in line does not guarantee any items from the Jimmy Choo for H&M collection.
WHICH STORE WILL HAVE THE ITEMS I’M LOOKING FOR?
Please see the full collection under “Collection Overview” in the navigation below. Each item will have a “Find a store” button that will reveal where you can find that specific item."
In a way, I can see the point with this queuing system, but still I think it sucks. Gladly I don't have to be an early bird on Saturday morning and stand in the queue, as I got an invitation to the VIP-launch of the collection. And that VIP-launch is on Friday night.
The invitation is for me and an avec, and as my avec I chose my best friend Jenni. I'm so looking forward to Friday night and the opportunity to shop Jimmy Choo for H&M shoes and accessories before those who didn't get an invitation to this VIP-launch.
There is a slight chance that I will write about this VIP-launch a couple of times still befor the actual event, but I hope you bare with me. I'm just so excited about the whole thing!
Here are some of my favourites from the collection.
Photos from the above pictures are from H&M's website.
...for at least few days.
It began snowing for real on Thursday and it snowed until yesterday evening. We have a little less than 10 cm of snow now and I am so happy, 'cause it is now so much lighter as the snow on the ground takes away little of the darkness that has been around lately.
Yesterday was nice, as it was just below zero degrees Celsius, which equals no wet snow. Today is a bit different; its about +2 degrees Celsius and the snow is wet...and heavy. I found this out while trying to do some paths around my parents house in order for the dogs to have it a bit more easier to run around. The garden at my parents house isn't small, it's huge so it took me a good 2 hours to get the work done. To have the paths and the drive way clear from snow. And I did all by hand. Well, OK, I had a snow pusher...but you know what I mean.
My dad has a snow blower as well, but surprise surprise, I can't use that bloody thing. So I had no other choice than to do all the work the hard way. And man was I exhausted after all the work was done...I think I've done my exercises for the next couple of weeks in advance today...that is at least how I feel at the moment.
I think I have now earned some hot chocolate with whipped cream on top, don't you think?
I should be writing on the big T, but instead I'm writing my blog. Hmmm...where did I go wrong?!
The thesis writing has been going quite well lately, but still I sometimes feel like I don't know what the hell I'm writing about. I had a meeting with the dean, who is my mentor on this big T project, a week ago and he was quite pleased with the work I had done so far. Of course he had to criticize on some things, but that's just who he is...the criticising dean. Apparently I'm not the clever student as I haven't reflected my own thoughts enough on the theories that my thesis bases on, but hey I thought I would present my own thoughts in the empirical part and in the conclusions. I was wrong. So now I have been trying to make the theoretical part more discussing, but it's not easy let me tell you. I suck at it. And I'm planning on giving up on that and moving on to the next part in the big T.
But that's enough about the big T.
Yesterday it was snowing! And Emma was the little happy puppy about that. Unfortunately the snow did not stay on the ground at all...it melted away the second it landed on the ground. Today it was also snowing. I went to the doctor to have my stitches removed from my back, and as I walked to the doctor's it was snowing. But again, it melted away as soon as it hit the ground. Which made me a bit sad. I'd like to have snow so that the mornings and evenings would be even a bit lighter than they are at the moment. It's so depressing with all the blackness around.
And I'm so waiting for Christmas. I just want to decorate my home with Christmas decorations and put lanterns in the window. And change the curtains for the kitchen. Christmas' red curtains.
Perhaps I should continue with the big T...
Suppose Emma has been enjoying me being at home for the last two weeks as she is seeking for attention all the time. I don't mind it, but it gets a bit annoying at times. Here is how a day is for Emma.
She wakes up at the sound of my alarm clock (i.e. mobile phone) at what ever time it is alarming at. I usually snooze for x minutes...sometimes its 10 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes...but Emma doesn't mind. She gets up when I get up. If I sleep until 11 am, she "sleeps" until 11 am. Sometimes she tries to get me out of bed earlier by licking my face or by placing herself on my bust, which is a bit annoying.
When we finally get out of bed I put some clothes quickly on and then dress Emma with her jumper or coat (depending on how cold it is outside). The we go for a quick walk to the park near by. In the mornings Emma is quite quick with her business outside (thank God). Although I don't mind being outside for a while longer in the morning as the cold fresh air makes you wake up properly, but when its a work morning then I prefer her to be quick :)
After the morning walk and we have come in, it's time for Emma's breakfast. She gets some dog food and a special porridge that my dad makes. These two are mixed together, sometimes I heat up the porridge, and Emma enjoys her breakfast.
After her breakfast Emma usually takes a nap and I have time to start working on my thesis. She usually lets me write in peace, but sometimes she has this huge need to disturb me in different ways.
I go out with Emma three to four times a day. The last walk is done around 10 pm just before bedtime.
Emma's favourite place to sleep on is my bed, so when I'm writing at my desk shes sleeping right behind my back on my bed. Which is fine. At times I can feel her staring at me...she does this on purpose as she knows that I'll get distracted from what I am doing. If her staring at me doesn't work, she stand at the edge of my bed and scratches my back with her front paws. And that usually does the trick, she gets me distracted. Her scratching me at the back is usually a sign to pick her up and take her in my lap, which I usually do. But it's not very easy to write anything on a laptop with her in my lap as she always finds a way to put her head or paws in the way. I usually get pretty annoyed with her not being able to be still in my lap, so I put her back on the bed or on the floor.
When she's on the floor she runs around trying to find some of her toys...which she doesn't as she comes running back to me standing on her back legs scratching me on my thigh for some attention. This usually means that she wants to play. She does this until I finally give up and go play with her. I do this for about 5 - 10 minutes and then she plays by her self for the same amount of time. So I usually have abt. 10 minutes to work on my thesis until she comes disturbing me again by starring at me, by scratching my back or by scratching my thigh until I give up and play with here again. She does this on repeat. At some point I just have to take her out for a walk in order to get her to calm down a bit.
Emma has a inner clock. She knows exactly when the clock is 4 pm, as that is when she usually gets her dinner, her dinner is the same as she gets for breakfast. Talk about a dull life. When the clock is about 4 pm Emma starts acting nervous and scratching my leg, which usually is the her way of saying she wants food. And she gets it. After dinner she usually calms down and leaves me alone for a while.
The evenings are much more nicer as Emma doesn't bother in the same way as she does during the day. One reason for this might be that I'm not sitting by the computer anymore and I usually throw some of her toys for her.
Despite Emma's small annoyances I love her to bits. She's my little baby :)
Yesterday I arrived at Turku around noon. My first mission was to walk from the train station to my sisters place. It took me 20 minutes to walk, but I didn't mind as the weather was nice an sunny. So I came to my sisters place, dumped some of my stuff there and headed to Hanken (that's where I'm studying, it's part of Åbo Akademi University). There I was supposed to gather some articles for my Big T and I managed quite good. The other thing I was supposed to do there was to ask the librarian for some help with getting market info about USA. Totally forgot about that, so now I have to make another trip to Academia today.
At 3 pm I had a date with Miss A-H and Miss Z. At first we sat a short while at the café at our faculty, and then we headed to Rico, a restaurant in the city center. We had a very nice meal there and had such a laugh once again. It was so nice seeing the girls after a loooong while. I think it was in May that I saw them last. It was nice to catch up on things and here what has been going on in their lives lately. We had some really nice desserts, which I took pictures of with my mobile...I'll have to post the pictures here as soon as I have downloaded them on my computer.
I was back at my sisters place around 6 pm. She had one of her friends over for dinner and it was nice to see her. The rest of the evening we took it quite easy.
Today I was supposed to wake up early and head to Stockmann's Crazy Days, but I just wasn't in the mood to stand behind Stockmann's doors at 7:59 am. So I woke up at 8:30 and headed to Stockmann's at 9:30 am. And that was too late...all the Modern Art lamps where sold out. And I was devastated. I asked one of the ladies behind the counter if they really were sold out and she told my yes, but if I'd pay the price of the lamp now I'd get the lamp in 4 to 6 weeks. "We have a deal" I heard myself say and handed out my credit card. There I was standing with a receipt in my hand and no lamp, but still I had a huge smile on my face. The lamp of my dreams is mine and I will have int a month or so. I'm only a bit sad that I won't have the lamp at my housewarming party, but you can't have everything, right?!
I also found some other small stuff that I bought, but those are not worth mentioning.
So, now I have to head to the library at our faculty. Couldn't care less, but some things just needs to be done.
The following four weeks will be about the Big T, a.k.a. the Master's Thesis, and not much of anything else...not even work.
In December 2008 I was a very happy girl as I had got a job at the company where I had worked for the summer. I was happy that I got the job before I had even graduated and that I got a job at this difficult time (read recession). I had no idea at the time that the recession would have any effects on the company I just started working for, which obviously was really stupid of me. Of course it would effect the business, who is stupid enough not to think so. Well, I was.
Now the situation has come to the point where the company had to lay off me for four weeks time, which kind of sucks as it means no money for the following month. Or actually for the following 6 weeks, as my next pay day is 15th November. This means I will eat only porridge and hard rye bread for the time being. Not getting any money for the following 6 weeks also means that i can't do any shopping, which sucks 'cause I love shopping. And there is Stockmann's Crazy Days (you can read about the Crazy Days in one of my older posts here) coming up next week and they had so much nice stuff that I want (and really really need, NOT ;)) There is one lamp that I have dreamed of buying for ages. It's by a designer called Yki Nummi and the lamp is called Modern Art. Bellow is a quote from www.designforum.fi about the Modern Art lamp.
"The Modern Art lamp (Stockmann-Orno 1955)
Owing to his studies in mathematics and physics, Yki Nummi had a theoretical knowledge of light and its properties. In the 1950s, the design of lamps and light fixtures was perhaps less complex than at present, because the items were not produced in large series and commercial considerations were not paramount. It was possible to experiment and to realize bold concepts. The Modern Art lamp is one such concept. It was made of acrylic, a new material adopted by the Stockmann-Orno factory in 1951. In keeping with the spirit of the 1950s, the lamp is of simplified form. Its cylindrical clear acrylic base is combined with a thin, translucent shade filtering light evenly. The lamp received its name from being obtained for the collections of New York’s Museum of Modern Art."
If one thing is certain, it is that I will buy that lamp...even if it will cause a big gap in my finance. But the most important thing is that I will get it for 80 Euro less at Stockmann's Crazy Days than I would if I'd buy it at Artek or somewhere else.
Four weeks of no work also means that I'll have time to write on my Big T, which I have neglected for almost all of the summer until now. In a way this is not so bad, 'cause I really want to get my Big T done so that I can graduate and get my Master's Degree, which I have dreamed of for some time now.
So, as of tomorrow I will start writing on my Big T again and I hope that I get as much done as possible during the following four weeks. I promised my self that if I work really hard on the Big T during the weekdays (Mon - Fri) then I get to take the weekends off and do something fun. And I'm sure that I'll write so much better when I have my new Modern Art lamp on my desk :)
Yaiks, that's what I call a work-out. You definitely deserved that hot chocolate! :) read more
